Mel attended John Carroll University in Cleveland, OH, where she was a key contributor in catching and at the plate each season for the Blue Streaks. She has been a catching coach alongside Michelle Switzer at Winning Softball for several years. Mel has developed a passion for coaching and strives to help young softball players achieve their goals on and off the field.

As a freshman, Mel appeared in 30 games, starting in 26. She finished with a .333 on-base percentage and threw out 25% of runners stealing. 

As a sophomore, she started in all 35 games and broke the previous record for runners caught stealing, with 15 in 2024. She was 4th on the team in batting average, had 7 doubles, and collected an OPS of .732. She ranked 3rd on the team in both slugging and OPS. She also earned Academic All-Conference recognition. 

In her junior year, she played in all 30 games and led the team in several categories, including OPS (.944), doubles (10), home runs (4), RBI’s (20), total bases (47), and slugging (.588). She ranked 7th in the conference in home runs, 15th in slugging, 21st in OPS, and 11th in doubles. She threw out a total of 11 runners stealing and finished with a 33% caught stolen bases percentage, where she ranked 5th in the conference. She was named to the College Sports Communicators Academic All-District and Academic All-Conference teams.

In her final season with the Blue Streaks, she totaled a career high of 6 homeruns, ranking 2nd in the conference and on the team. She tallied 45 total bases, a .529 slugging, and .936 in OPS. She ranked 18th in total bases, 6th in slugging, and 12th in OPS. Behind the plate, she tallied 7 runners caught stealing, ranking 6th in the conference. To top it off, Mel was named to the All-Conference First Team.
